Our State, November 2003
by Bill Morris
From his cramped office above the feed store, Tom Magnuson lacks a
panoramic view of downtown historic Hillsborough. But he’s not
complaining. As president of the Trading Path Association, Magnuson is
concerned with history that is under threat, rather than the thoroughly
plaqued variety under his window. The two rooms he works in are jammed
floor-to-ceiling with maps, from John Lawson’s 1709 “new voyage” to
government-issue topographic sectionsto aerial photos taken by the U.S.
Geological Survey.
